Did You Know? Free Cyber Resilience Support for Australian Small Businesses!

A tough, miilitary style person stands in the background with the headline "Free Cybersecurity Support" in the foreground.

Here’s something you might not know… Australian small businesses can access FREE, personalised support to enhance their cyber resilience and recover from cyber incidents. The Small Business Cyber Resilience Service offers tailored, one-on-one assistance to help business with 19 or fewer staff members to strengthen their cyber security defences and effectively respond to cyber threats.

Key Features of the Service:

  • Personalised Cyber Security Plans: Security Experts collaborate directly with small business owners to develop customised strategies that address specific cyber security needs, ensuring that recommendations align with the business’s unique risk profile and operational capabilities.
  • Actionable Guidance: The service provides clear, practical steps to bolster cyber defences, including advice on tools and best practices tailored to the business’s circumstances.
  • Incident Recovery Support: In the event of a cyber incident, businesses receive guidance on recovery procedures, assistance with legal obligations, customer communication strategies, and referrals to additional support services if necessary.
  • Holistic Case Management: Beyond technical support, the service offers comprehensive case management, including mental health support, to help business owners navigate the aftermath of cyber incidents, which can be devastating.

Eligibility and Access:

The service is available at no cost to Australian small businesses with 19 or fewer full-time (or equivalent) employees, including sole traders, across both regional and metropolitan areas.

To access the service, businesses can:

  • Call the Helpline: Reach out to the Small Business Cyber Resilience Service helpline at 1800 595 170, available Monday to Friday between 8 am and 6 pm AEST.
  • Online Request: Submit a request through the online form available on the business.gov.au website.

For businesses currently experiencing a cyber incident, immediate assistance is available through the Australian Cyber Security Hotline at 1300 CYBER1 (1300 292 371). Following initial support, businesses can be referred to the Small Business Cyber Resilience Service for ongoing recovery assistance.

Additional Resources:

The Australian Government also offers other initiatives to support small businesses in enhancing their digital capabilities and cyber security:

  • Digital Solutions Program: Provides up to four hours of one-on-one digital advice from qualified business advisors, covering topics such as cyber security, digital marketing, and business software.
  • Cyber Wardens Program: Offers free online training to help small business owners and employees identify and implement cyber safety practices to prevent and protect against cyber threats.

By leveraging these resources, small businesses can significantly enhance their cyber resilience, ensuring they are better prepared to prevent and respond to cyber threats in today’s digital landscape.

For slightly bigger businesses, with 50+ team members, a company like Computer One is the answer to securing your network now and assisting when you are under attack.
